If you really don’t want to experience disappointment, you will hold yourself back in some way.
You must be okay with failure in order to go all in and reach your peak.
Disappointment is uncomfortable, so it’s often avoided. If you’re doing everything possible NOT to feel disappointed, you are limiting yourself. You’re not going all in, you’re not going living into your fullness.
If this is you, it’s okay. It’s not ALWAYS appropriate to go big and hard towards a scary goal. It depends on your current bandwidth and mental state. But, when you’re ready, you gotta work through the fear of disappointment to find out what you’re truly capable of.
It’s important to focus on the process, rather than the outcome. This means focusing on the skills and techniques required to perform the movement, rather than the final score or result.
To focus on the process, set goals that are specific and achievable, such as “I will focus on my footwork in my snatch” or “I will practise/challenge my overhead mobility during the next practice session.” This helps to shift the focus away from the outcome and towards the process, which can reduce anxiety and improve performance.
